STILL ASLEEP
I walk with but a lonely lantern
To light my path in the dark
Towards the castle gates I stride
Everyone is still asleep.
My feet creep silently
On the gravel path.
Onwards
The doors creaking open and shut
Guide me towards the stairway
They are the rudder in the sea of dreams
That waft from the beds of repose.
I am guided to the foot of the stairs.
Over the stairs a carpet red gleams
The blood that the wounded attic shed
When the rain failed to dry
Its gaping wounds.
My feet carried me forward
I reached the woods
That formed an archway of branches
The shadows shivered.
I scribbled a message
Onto the breeze
With the lampblack
That the lantern left
Before it burned free
It is formed and unformed with the wind.
Let there be no light
For then there would be no shadows.
